Luke’s Lobster, Get Maine Lobster, and several other retailers and restaurants are offering specials throughout the week in recognition of National Lobster Day on 25 September and Maine Lobster Week.
“This is the third year of Maine Lobster Week and we have been getting more restaurants each year,” Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative (MLMC) Executive Director Marianne LaCroix told Seafood Source. “It gives an opportunity for restaurants to showcase innovative new dishes or a favorite lobster dish and gives the opportunity for those in Maine to enjoy lobster at the height of the season.”

Monday, September 25, is National Lobster Day, an official food holiday on which you can (and should) traipse along the seashore double-fisting whole lobsters. June 15, by the way, is also National Lobster Day. Nope, you’re not experiencing double vision as you Google. This month there is a National Lobster Day, an official food holiday, but there is also one on June 15. The June date was the original date and as with many national holidays, its unclear how it came about, or why it was established on this date.
However, the September 25 National Lobster Day, has a much clearer origin story. September 25 is situated at the height of lobster harvesting season. In 2015 the Maine Lobster Dealers’ Association, dedicated to finding solutions to problems in the lobster industry, asked the Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative to help them change National Lobster Day from June to September.
